Choir Director Reports to: Minister

Position Type: Part-time (5-6 hrs/week for 10 months)

Date of Employment: Mid-August start with 90-day probationary period

Salary: $5,000-6,000, commensurate with experience and keyboard skills

The Choir Director oversees and leads the Choir, and/or leads the congregation in singing, during worship services two Sundays per month.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Work collaboratively with the minister to schedule music and/or musicians for services that represent a diversity of ages, cultures, and musical tastes, reflecting Unitarian Universalist perspectives, principals, and values.

2. Create, direct, and prepare vocal and instrumental musical opportunities for congregants. Solicit new musical volunteers.

3. Applicants need the minimum skill to provide accompaniment during choir rehearsals.

4. Mid-August through mid-June, recruit, prepare, and direct choir for one - two Sunday services per month, and conduct four rehearsals per month. The choir director is expected to lead a choir performance on Christmas Eve.

5. Advise on the use of congregational music education resources for members and friends of the congregation.

6. Prepare practice resources (including recordings for choir vocal parts), sheet music, and choral resources as required for choral and instrumental works. See to the maintenance of the Congregation’s music library.

7. Coordinate with the congregation’s part-time accompanists as needed for choir director’s in-person Sundays.

8. Meet periodically (typically monthly) with the minister.

9. Collaborate with the minister to create a choir budget for the upcoming congregational year. Administer the budget for purchasing choral music and maintenance and repair of the piano.
